MARTHA HRAOUI

Un don et un réel penchant pour l’art se révèlent dès l’adolescence chez Martha Hraoui. Elle trouvera son épanouissement par une formation académique avec le peintre Boris Novikoff, suivie de cours à l’Académie Charpentier et à la Grande Chaumière à Paris.
Le travail de Hraoui est très imprégné par sa culture et ses expériences vécues. Ceci se manifeste dès 1967, lors de sa première exposition à Beyrouth qui a pour thème la Maison Libanaise. En 1981, à travers sa première exposition individuelle à Paris intitulée « Fleurs et Ruines », elle relate la triste réalité de son pays en guerre, tout en portant un message de paix et d’optimisme. À partir de 1987, Martha Hraoui laisse éclater avec force et liberté fusain, pastel et sanguine pour dessiner le Nu, en réaction à une immobilisation due à un accident. En plus de Paris et Beyrouth, Hraoui a exposé à Mexico, Sao Paulo, Chypre, Téhéran, Athènes, France, Riyad, Ibiza, Genève, Monte-Carlo, La Chaux de Fonds, et enfin Carthage. Le Prix– Méditerranée lui fut décerné en 1997 à Paris. En 2002 la poste Française, sélectionne une œuvre de Hraoui pour enveloppes pré-timbrées. Ses œuvres figurent aussi sur des couvertures de plusieurs publications. En 2003, la Réserve Géologique des Alpes-de-Haute-Provence la charge de l’illustration du guide de la région.

L’artiste réunit régulièrement des œuvres représentant des paysages méditerranéens interprétés symboliquement à l’huile, et des Nus en pastel ou à l’encre de chine, technique nouvellement adoptée par l’artiste. Elle refuse toute dissociation entre le Paysage et le Nu, puisque ce dernier représente pour elle un prolongement de la nature. Martha Hraoui témoigne de son époque avec détermination, tout en restant en quête d’une harmonie continue dans son travail.

Since her adolescence Martha Hraoui showed a talent and a liking for art. Only later, she found her blossoming through an educational training with the painter Boris Novicoff, followed by courses at the Charpentier Academy and at La Grande Chaumière in Paris.
The work of Hraoui is very influenced by her culture and by her real-life experiences. This can be seen in 1967, at the time of her first solo exhibition in Beirut which turned on the theme of the "Lebanese House". In 1981, for her first solo exhibition in Paris entitled " Flowers and ruins", she related the sad reality of her country in a state of war while bearing a message of peace and optimism. Starting in 1987, Martha Hraoui began to give free rein to her charcoal crayon, pastel and sanguine to draw the nude with a liberating energy and this, in reaction to an immobilisation caused by an accident.
In addition to Paris and Beirut, Hraoui has also exhibited in Mexico, Sao Paulo, Cyprus, Tehran, Athens, France, Riyadh, Ibiza, Geneva, Monte-Carlo, La Chaux de Fonds, and finally Carthage.
In 1997 she was awarded the Mediterranean- Prize in Paris. In 2002, the French post has selected an artwork of Hraoui for pre-stamped envelopes. Her artwork also figures on the covers of many publications. In 2003, the Geological Reserve of the Alps-of –High-Province charged her to illustrate a guide to the region.

The artist regularly combines paintings representing Mediterranean scenery interpreted symbolically with the oil technique, and nudes drawn in pastel and in India ink, a technique newly adopted by the artist.
Martha Hraoui witnesses her epoch with determination, while remaining true to the pursuit of continuous harmony in her work.
