NEDIM KUFI

Artiste Iraqo-Hollandais, Nedim Kufi travaille avec différents supports visuels à la recherche d'expressions inattendues et d'émotions mouvementées.

Sa peinture ne se limite pas aux méthodes classiques. Grâce à ses différentes formations (céramique, graphisme, gravure, et sculpture), il mêle les méthodes et techniques acquises en utilisant des matières diverses. Toutes matières organiques ou inorganiques ( papiers, ficelles, chiffons, henné, fleurs, terre, etc.. ) sont appliqués sur une toile ou du bois. Dans son atelier, rien est à jeter, tout est recyclable.
Kufi est à la recherche du certaine « formule créative» qui lui permet de mettre en valeur la beauté cachée de ces matières. D'après l'artiste, sa personnalité et sa méthode de travail rejoint celle de l' attar ( le parfumeur), ses oeuvres stimulant également une interaction sensorielle et intime entre l'objet, le spectateur et l'artiste.

«  J'ai appris à simplifier et à analyser les objets entre mes mains, à les dépouiller en travaillant. », dit-il. « Je travaille avec des éléments que l' attar pourrait utiliser, et que j'essaie de fabriquer moi-même. Les « beaux » objets sont déjà beaux; alors je m'interroge sur mon devoir? Quelle est ma mission? Je suis un observateur aussi bien qu'un messager qui transmet l'histoire des objets à un autre observateur.   Je n'interviens pas directement sur le sens de l'objet, mais je le modifie selon le point de vue que je lui donne. »

Nedim Kufi est né a Bagdad en 1962. Après avoir été diplômé en sculpture et gravure de l'Académie des Beaux Arts de Bagdad, il s'installe en Hollande en 1996 pour poursuivre ses études (céramique et graphisme) et y vit depuis.
Depuis 1984, Nedim Kufi expose régulièrement à travers le monde ses peintures et autres oeuvres plastiques.

Iraqi/Dutch visual artist Nedim Kufi uses mixed media to create unexpected expressions of tumultuous emotions.

Nedim Kufi rejects traditional methods of painting. Trained in etching, sculpture, ceramics and graphic design, he interweaves different methods and techniques using raw materials taken from his surroundings. Inorganic as well as organic materials (paper, string, rags, dyes, henna, flowers, soil etc... ) are applied to either canvas or wood. In his atelier there is no trash, things are continuously recycling into other forms.
Over the years this has led the artist to discover the "creative formula" that permits him to analyze the hidden beauty of the materials he works with. He compares his character and work method with that of the " attar" (the perfumer): Both stimulate an intimate sensorial interaction between the object, the viewer and the artist.

Kufi describes his role as artist as the following "I learned to simplify and analyze things in my hands, stripping them down when working. I use elements that the " attar " would use, and I try to make most of them. Beautiful things are already beautiful; so what is my duty? What is my mission? I wonder. I am an observer and at the same time a messenger transmitting the story of things to another observer. I'm not doing anything to the object, but the skill comes from manipulating the point of view."

Nedim Kufi was born in Baghdad in 1962. After having studied sculpture and etching at the Academy of Fine Arts in Baghdad, he traveled to Holland in 1996 to continue his studies (ceramics and graphic design). Since 1984, Nedim Kufi regularly shows his work in Europe, the United States and in the Middle East. He currently resides in Holland.
