GOLNAZ FATHI

Née à Téhéran en 1972, Golnaz Fathi est diplômée en Art graphique de l'Azad Art University ainsi qu'en Calligraphie de l'Association Iranienne pour la Calligraphie.
Elle expose individuellement à Téhéran depuis 1998 dans les galeries Seyhoon, Niavrana Book City et Golestan. Elle a notamment participé à la Biennale de peinture iranienne de 1993 et au premier festival islamique de la calligraphie au Musée de l'art Contemporain de Téhéran en 1997. Elle possède à son actif de nombreuses expositions collectives en Iran, aux Etats-Unis, en France et en Belgique. En 1995, elle remporte le prix de la meilleure calligraphe en Ketabat à Téhéran.
Golnaz Fathi développe un style très personnel où le traditionnel et le contemporain, la peinture et le graphisme s'entremêlent. Ses coups de pinceaux expriment une violence libératice. Sa palette de couleurs, inspirée par sa culture orientale, est dense et éclatante, dominée par un bleu azur rappelant celui des coupoles, un blanc pur et un rouge vif.
Des lettres perses calligraphiées viennent s'inscrire spontanément sur sa toile. Cette mystification du sens au profit de pures formes fait allusion à une possible renaissance culturelle. Cette renaissance, exprimée à travers ce formalisme et la juxtaposition d’éléments traditionnels et contemporains met en cause un régime politique répressif et une société uniforme et conservatrice.

Born in Teheran in 1972, Golnaz Fathi has a Graphic design degree from the Azad Art University and a diploma in Calligraphy from Iran's Calligraphy Association.
Since 1998, she presented several solo exhibitions in Teheran mainly at Seyhoon Gallery, Niavrana Book City and Golestan Gallery. She also participated to many collective exhibitions in Iran, United States, France and Belgium such as the Biennale of Iranian Painting, the first Islamic World Festival in 1997 at the Museum of Contemporary Art (Teheran). In 1995, Fathi was the award winner of the best woman calligrapher in "Ketabat" Teheran.
Golnaz Fathi develops a very personal style as she fuses together the traditional and the contemporary, abstract painting and gestured calligraphy. The strokes of her paint brush express a certain liberating violence. Her palette is dense and bright, mainly inspired by her oriental culture. With a blue azure that alludes to the blue of the domes, a pure white and a deep red, the artist makes a spatial overlapping while maintaining symmetry. Letters in Iranian calligraphy lay down spontaneously as pure forms on her canvas. A mystifying suggestion alluding to a cultural "renaissance". A renaissance wich affirms itself and defies a repressive political regime and a conservative society through her formalism and the simple juxtaposition of traditional and modern features.
